International Lineman’s Rodeo Association Cancels 2020 Event

June 22, 2020
To safeguard linemen and their families during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ILRA has decided to cancel the 2020 Lineman's Rodeo and week of events.

For more than 35 years, the International Lineman’s Rodeo has brought together linemen and their families from around the world for a week of competition and camaraderie.

For 2020, the International Lineman’s Rodeo Association (ILRA) has made the difficult decision to cancel the event, originally scheduled for Oct. 14-17, 2020, to protect the safety of the linemen and their loved ones during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 event will proceed as scheduled.

“The International Lineman’s Rodeo has persevered through natural disasters like hurricanes and other severe weather events,” says Kim Good, show manager for Endeavor Business Media. “This is the first time we have ever canceled the Rodeo, but we feel like it is the best decision. Our linemen are our first responders, and we must protect them at this time.”

While the in-person events such as the Lineman’s Expo and Rodeo competition will not take place, the teams at T&D World and Utility Products magazines are striving to keep the Rodeo spirit alive this fall. For example, the 2020 Top Tools of the Trade competition is underway to honor product excellence in the electric utility industry.

For this year’s competition, the early bird deadline is June 30, 2020, and all entries must be submitted by July 10 to be considered. All companies that manufacture products for the electric utility industry are welcome to participate. The contest features six different product categories including climbing gear, lineman tools, lineman rigging, safety, truck equipment and workwear. The registration form can be accessed at

“Linemen depend on the latest technology to improve their safety and efficiency in the field,” says Amy Fischbach, T&D World Field Editor. “T&D World is partnering with Utility Products to honor the best of the best in products for the electric utility industry through the Top Tools of the Trade competition.”
