FERC Accepts NorthernGrid Jurisdictional Tariff Filings, NWPP to Serve as NorthernGrid Project Coordinator

April 9, 2020
The filings asked FERC to accept modifications to each filing party’s Open Access Transmission Tariff transmission planning section to reflect the new NorthernGrid regional transmission planning process.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has accepted tariff modifications filed by the FERC-jurisdictional members of NorthernGrid — Avista Corp., Idaho Power Co., MATL, NorthWestern Energy, PacifiCorp, Portland General Electric Co. and Puget Sound Energy.

The filings asked FERC to accept modifications to each filing party’s Open Access Transmission Tariff transmission planning section to reflect the new NorthernGrid regional transmission planning process.

NorthernGrid is a member association formed to provide a forum for coordinated regional planning across the Pacific Northwest and intermountain states and includes FERC-jurisdictional utility companies, the Bonneville Power Administration, public utility districts, and municipalities.

Last December, the NorthernGrid members contracted with the Northwest Power Pool to manage the planning processes and perform planning studies. Since that time, the NorthernGrid website has been developed and committees organized in preparation for the affirmative FERC order.

NorthernGrid commenced regional transmission planning activities on April 1.
