Jersey Central Power & Light will trim more than 3,900 miles of lines, improve clearances, remove dangerous trees and perform addition spot trimming by the end of 2012.

The utility, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., plans to work in municipalities across its 13-county service area. As of early September, the company's certified contractors have trimmed trees along more than 1,500 miles of distribution and subtransmission circuits. Certified forestry experts are inspecting vegetation near the lines to ensure that trees are pruned to preserve the trees' health and maintain safety near electric facilities. The crews also will remove diseased trees or those that present danger.
