B. N. De Bhowmick was awarded a B.Tech (Hons) degree from IIT Kharagpur in 1983 and began his career as an executive trainee at NTPC Ltd., where he worked on the erection, testing and commissioning of 400-kV substations and overhead transmission lines. He joined POWERGRID in 1991, specializing in condition monitoring and diagnostics of substation equipment. Bhowmick is now an executive director with responsibilities for the 1200-kV national test station, process bus implementation and pollution mapping in India. He has published many national and international papers. He currently is a member of the International CIGRE Working Group A2.49 Health Indexing of Transformers and a member of IEC Technical Committee 122 for ultra high-voltage ac transmission systems.
