Ravi Gorur is professor and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and emeritus professor at Arizona State University. He is a fellow of the IEEE. He works mainly the area of outdoor insulators as well as dielectrics for energy storage applications. He was the U.S. representative to CIGRE Study Committee D1 (Advanced Materials) for several years. He has co-authored a textbook and over 200 papers on outdoor insulators.
