A massive TenneT transformer weighing 225 tons was transported to Meeden substation in the north of the Netherlands this week. The transformer was lifted from a barge by the specialist firm Mammoet at Veendam. The transformer was then placed on a flatbed trailer and transported to the high-voltage substation at Meeden, where it was installed on-site.

In previous years, two 220-110-kV transformers have been installed at Meeden substation. One of these was relocated some 10 years ago, as it was needed elsewhere. Several years ago, it was decided to install a second transformer at the substation in connection with the grid upgrade in the north of the country. An order for this transformer was placed in early 2007. The transformer will be operational in November 2008.
