Fingrid To Begin Building 300-km Lake Line From Vaala To Joroinen In Fall 2023
Fingrid will start constructing the 300 km Lake Line, a transmission line to run through Vaala, Kajaani, Sonkajarvi, Vierema, Iisalmi, Lapinlahti, Siilinjarvi, Kuopio, Suonenjoki, Leppavirta, Pieksamaki and Joroinen, in autumn 2023 and post an expropriation permit from the government.
Fingrid is planning to initiate clearing trees from the transmission line right-of-way and build the foundations for the line between Kajaani, Iisalmi and Lapinlahti in October or November.
The line, expected to be commissioned by the end of 2026, will not only help produce renewable energy but also connect it to the main grid and strengthen the electricity transmission capacity.
The transmission line will help Finland achieve its climate goals by permitting new energy production facilities to connect to the main electricity transmission grid. It will also ensure that Fingrid remains a single market area for electricity pricing, one of its obligations under the Electricity Market Act.
