MISO Adopts Three Members, Loses One

The board of directors of the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO), Indianapolis, Indiana, has unanimously approved three new applications for membership.

The new members, which are joining as non-transmission owners, include Indeck-Rockford LLC, an exempt wholesale generator; Connectiv Energy Supply Inc., a power marketer; and Tenaska Power Services Co., a power marketer. The addition of these members brings the number of non-transmission owners in the MISO to 28.

In addition, Illinois Power has notified the MISO of its intent to withdraw as a transmission owning member. The MISO transmission owner's agreement permits withdrawals; however, the MISO disagrees with Illinois Power's contention that its withdrawal could be effective by December 2001, since the utility is responsibile for its share of any financial obligations prior to that date. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's approval of the withdrawal does not appear to be in dispute.
