Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc.'s University (SELU) will release a security course series in 2017 that provides a range of knowledge to help individuals of all levels better understand physical and cybersecurity best practices to create more secure industrial control systems (ICSs).
We rely on ICSs every day. They control our power grid, help us run our manufacturing floors, and manage critical processes in chemical production. Understanding ICS security is useful to everyone no matter what your role is in securing critical systems.
“Security is critical to the resiliency and functionality of control systems such as the electric power grid. To help our customers better secure their systems, SELU has developed a set of ICS security courses,” said Jess Smith, research engineer at SEL. “These courses range from introductory to advanced, include both lectures and hands-on time, and detail topics such as understanding malicious actors and their attack patterns, designing defendable networks, and securing intelligent electronic devices. We also provide courses covering rules and regulations for electric power systems (NERC CIP) and incident response.”
Classes range from one to four days in length and offer continuing education units. These new courses include:
- SEC 101: ICS Fundamentals
- SEC 201: ICS Security Introduction
- SEC 203: ICS Electric Security Regulations for North America
- SEC 401: ICS Security Advanced Defensive Method
- SEC 403: ICS Security Incident Response
