The North American electric grid is entering an unprecedented era of expansion. Rapid load growth driven by data centers, artificial intelligence, electrification, advanced manufacturing, and other emerging energy demands is accelerating the need for large-scale transmission infrastructure at a pace the industry has never experienced. While utilities historically relied on relatively stable demand patterns to forecast material, labor, and construction requirements, that approach is proving insufficient for today's environment of exponential growth and increasing supply chain constraints.
As thousands of miles of new and upgraded transmission lines move from planning to execution, utilities must adopt new forecasting, procurement, and project planning strategies to ensure critical projects are delivered on time and within budget. This panel brings together leaders from across the transmission construction value chain, including investor-owned utilities, EPC firms, prime contractors, and key material suppliers, to discuss how planning practices are evolving for the next generation of transmission investments.
