Summary

The North American electric grid is entering an unprecedented era of expansion. Rapid load growth driven by data centers, artificial intelligence, electrification, advanced manufacturing, and other emerging energy demands is accelerating the need for large-scale transmission infrastructure at a pace the industry has never experienced. While utilities historically relied on relatively stable demand patterns to forecast material, labor, and construction requirements, that approach is proving insufficient for today's environment of exponential growth and increasing supply chain constraints.

As thousands of miles of new and upgraded transmission lines move from planning to execution, utilities must adopt new forecasting, procurement, and project planning strategies to ensure critical projects are delivered on time and within budget. This panel brings together leaders from across the transmission construction value chain, including investor-owned utilities, EPC firms, prime contractors, and key material suppliers, to discuss how planning practices are evolving for the next generation of transmission investments.

Panelists will share lessons learned from early Long Range Transmission Planning (LRTP) projects and compare them to traditional transmission development approaches. Attendees will gain insights into how utilities and their partners are improving coordination, identifying hidden capacity constraints, and managing risks associated with labor shortages, long-lead materials, and growing competition for resources.

The discussion will highlight where longstanding assumptions about available capacity are creating project risk and outline practical strategies for forecasting and executing major 345kV and 765kV transmission projects in the decade ahead. Tyler Reeves brings over two decades of experience in sales, marketing, and operations to his role as Chief Revenue Officer at Sterling. A seasoned executive and growth strategist, Tyler is passionate about building high-performing teams and unlocking transformational growth for the business and its people. Known for his customer-first approach, strategic clarity, and high-energy leadership style, he aims to help Sterling scale with intention and purpose.

Tyler’s career spans leadership roles across a wide range of industries. He previously held senior executive positions at Blackmon Mooring, Caliber Collision, and Interstate Batteries, where he led national account strategies, brand reinvention initiatives, and enterprise growth. He also served on the board of ReflectSystems and began his career in brand management at PepsiCo before moving into consulting at PwC, where he sharpened his analytical and strategic planning skills.

He holds a BBA from Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School and earned his MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. He remains engaged with the next generation of leaders through his service on the Dean’s Advisory Board at Mays.

Based in Dallas, Tyler lives with his wife Shelly and is a proud father of three college-aged children. He’s an avid hiker who finds inspiration in nature and adventure, and he remains actively involved in church and local community service. When not traveling or leading teams, Tyler enjoys weekends on the family farm, sharing laughs with his wife and caring for what he calls “way too many animals.”

Alex Machoka is Vice President of Transmission & Substation Construction at Oncor Electric Delivery, where he leads the planning and execution of transmission and substation construction projects that support one of the nation’s largest electric delivery systems.

Since joining Oncor in 2005, Alex has built a diverse career across utility operations, engineering, and field leadership. He began as a Protection & Control Technician after earning a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology from Texas Southern University. He later earned an MBA from the University of Dallas.

Over more than two decades in the electric utility industry, Alex has held numerous leadership roles spanning vegetation management, distribution control center operations, system protection, transmission district operations, distribution operations, and transmission operations. These experiences have provided him with broad expertise in utility infrastructure, operational excellence, workforce leadership, and grid reliability.

Appointed Vice President of Transmission & Substation Construction in January 2026, Alex is responsible for overseeing Oncor’s transmission and substation construction portfolio, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support the growing energy needs of Texas customers.
