Summary

As distributed energy resources (DERs) such as electric vehicles (EVs) and rooftop solar continue to grow, utilities need better visibility into load behavior at the grid edge. While AMI systems provide high-resolution consumption data, identifying what’s driving that load—and how it impacts the grid—remains a key challenge.

In this webinar, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) shares how it is using grid edge intelligence and load disaggregation to enhance visibility into EV charging and other emerging DER patterns. The session explores how utilities can move from aggregated meter data to more granular, actionable insights that support operational and planning decisions.

Attendees will learn:

  • How grid edge intelligence improves visibility into EV charging and DER behavior.
  • How utilities can unlock greater value from existing AMI data.
  • How behind-the-meter insights support distribution planning, reliability, and DER integration.
  • How EV and PV insights can inform customer programs, rate design, and demand response.
