CIBER Novasoft, a division of CIBER, Inc., announced it has won a major contract with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) to design, manage, install, and support a complete wireless system for the utility's warehouse management needs. This system includes SAP's Warehouse Management module, SAP Console, a wireless network, and bar coding applications at SMUD's two major warehouses, sublocations, and remote locations. SMUD, the sixth largest publicly owned utility in the U.S., uses the warehouses to store everything needed to service and maintain residential and commercial utility accounts and power production equipment.

The new warehouse management system will reduce costs and improve efficiency by helping the utility maintain an accurate, real-time inventory count at all times, eliminating overstock and out-of-stock situations.

The project with SMUD emphasizes CIBER Novasoft's and SAP America's new expanded Go-To-Market relationship and commitment to deliver high-quality, high-value solutions to customers. CIBER Novasoft is an SAP alliance partner in the public services sector, and has achieved SAP America's gold certification in its third-party consulting partner program.

For the project, CIBER Novasoft will conduct site surveys to determine locations for access points that ensure complete coverage, as well as create schematics, install the hardware, and coordinate the system with SAP Console. CIBER Novasoft will work with SMUD to extend the utility's current SAP system to include the warehouse management module, the computer software that will be used to track SMUD's inventory. CIBER Novasoft will also provide overall project management and on-going technical support.

Bob Wiltse, CIBER Novasoft Vice President and Novasoft Practice Leader, said, "We are pleased to work with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District on this important project. CIBER Novasoft can provide all of the hardware and services that the utility needs under one roof. We can take advantage of CIBER Novasoft considerable experience in supply chain management, public services, and SAP software applications as well as our top-tier relationships with the major RF hardware vendors to help SMUD realize a significant return on its investment with this state-of-the-art inventory management system."
