ABB has won a contract to supply El Paso Electric (EPE) with an integrated outage management system.

The project will integrate distribution management functions with a voice response system as well as GPS-based location of work crew vehicles, all under a single user interface. Project scope includes the supply of OMS, integrated voice response (IVR), and automatic vehicle location (AVL) systems, as well as the integration of these functions with EPE’s GIS, CIS, and SCADA systems.

We’re currently in the second phase of an asset management technology program,” explains Richard Swartz, director of Distribution Design and Deliver at EPE. “This outage management system will introduce a new level of integration between functions that were previously separate.”

ABB will deliver its flagship Network Manager DMS product used by many large and small utilities worldwide. The ABB baseline COTS product will provide trouble call management, outage management, crew management, and other standard functionality. EPE will use Network Manager DMS as a platform to add more advanced distribution applications in the future.

EPE expects significant improvements in outage response, storm response, and customer service with the implementation of this project. The project schedule is based on a fast track implementation approach, and the live system expected to be in place by the end of 2007
