Alstom Grid has been awarded a turnkey contract by Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum GmbH & Co. KG, which is building and will operate the Borkum West II offshore wind farm. The contract scope covers the construction of an offshore topside and substructure to house the entire electrical offshore substation.

In 2008, Alstom Grid was awarded the contract to create the complete electrical system for the offshore windfarm substation. This amendment includes the manufacturing and delivery of the steel construction including the support structure, manufacture and delivery of the component containers, the safety technology and the topside assembly. Alstom Grid’s main subcontractor for the steelwork and topside outfitting is the expert WeserWind GmbH Offshore Construction Georgsmarienhütte located in Bremerhaven.

The Borkum West II offshore wind farm consists of 80 wind turbines, each offering a rated maximum power of 5 MW. It is situated offshore, 45 km north of the island of Borkum in the exclusive economic zone of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Alstom Grid has the full responsibility for the complete scope of the offshore substation to minimize interfaces for the client. Delivery is scheduled for March 2012.
