Transformer Protector Corp.’s (Booth 3823) product, the TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR (TP), can prevent explosions in all oil-filled transformers from 0.1 MVA to over 1000 MVA. During a transformer short circuit, the TP is activated within milliseconds by the first dynamic pressure peak of the shock wave, avoiding transformer explosions before static pressure increases.
The TP is designed to protect the transformer tank, on-load tap changers and the oil cable boxes. The TP can be installed on existing or new transformers and is the only product on the market that can prevent explosions from happening when a short circuit occurs inside your transformer.
The TRANSFORMER PROTECTOR is now officially recommended for all Power Plants and Substations in the National Fire Protection Association Recommended Practices 2010 editions of:
- NFPA #850 (Recommended Practice for Fire Protection for Electric Generating Plants and High Voltage Direct Current Converter Stations)
- NFPA #851 (Recommended Practice for Fire Protection for Hydroelectric Generating Plants)
The TP has been thoroughly tested in the laboratory and proven in the field. The CEPEL Laboratory in Brazil performed 34 consecutive successful tests. Even in the most severe conditions the TP activated and no explosions or tank ruptures occurred.
