Demand Response (DR) technology provides a mechanism to maintain balance between supply and demand throughout the Smart Grid. OpenADR is an open and standardized way for utilities and customers to communicate effectively to improve energy efficiency, reduce cost and increase reliability.
ControlScope provides customers more granular control of their energy usage by enabling commercial and industrial facility managers to use lighting, HVAC, and plug load control strategies to respond automatically to an OpenADR event. Acting as the automation client, ControlScope communicates with the OpenADR server, receiving DR signals over the Internet and responding with pre-programmed control strategies, enabling a demand response event to be fully automated, with no manual intervention.
With OpenADR compliance designed into ControlScope, California business owners and operators can easily comply with the new Title 24 California Energy Code, in effect Jan 1, 2014. The changes to Title 24 state that all buildings greater than 10,000 square feet should have the capability to receive and automatically respond to standards-based messaging protocols, such as OpenADR, to reduce lighting power by at least 15% below the building’s maximum lighting power during peak demand times.
