Dan C. Smith, P.E., vice president, Electric Service Delivery of Austin Energy, will be the keynote speaker at OMICRON’s Recloser Workshop on April 26-27, 2017. Smith’s address is titled: “Inspiring Innovation and Collaboration that will Modernize our Grid.” He will outline his utility’s grid modernization strategic roadmap, which will include four key programs: AMI, Grid Automation, DER Integration, and Asset Management.
The Recloser Workshop will have a jam-packed agenda with 17 external speakers from utilities, manufacturers and service providers. Other speakers include Marina Mondello and Tiffany Wynne of Commonwealth Edison who will give a presentation titled “Distribution Automation in a Changing World.” Julio Romero of Quanta Technology will present a technical framework for joint automation, reliability, and protection assessment of distribution feeders with distributed generation. Alan Ross, vice president of Reliability for SD Myers will speak on the topic of reliability and how it relates to reclosers and distribution in today’s world. Alan has over 40 years of industry experience.
Several Recloser manufacturers will also make presentations including Eaton, Beckwith Electric, Siemens, S&C Electric, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and G&W Electric. There will also be a panel discussion made up of 8 manufacturers where the audience will have the opportunity to ask any questions. This panel will be moderated by Doug Houseman. There will also be a hands-on session on the second day showing various testing solutions.
The evening before the Recloser workshop begins, Eaton will provide a technical tour of their Experience Center in Houston. A welcome reception will follow that evening.
