Silver Spring Networks has been selected by Unison for a smart grid project in New Zealand. Silver Spring’s standards-based IPv6 networking solution will be deployed across the entirety of Unison’s service territory (in Hawke’s Bay, Rotorua and Taupo). Unison’s smart grid roll out is expected to deliver improved reliability and service for consumers, provide enhanced management of power grid assets, and enable greater overall energy efficiency.

The deployment leverages Silver Spring’s Gen4 networking technology, providing increased performance, reliability, and security. Silver Spring’s standards-based IPv6 networking platform supports a range of solutions and applications focused on increasing power grid performance and improving energy efficiency.
