Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation (Middle Tennessee EMC) has implemented ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine as its mobile viewing solution.

In January 2005, Middle Tennessee EMC selected ESRI’s ArcGIS and Miner & Miner’s (M&M) ArcFM Solution as its GIS facilities and design management system. Through the joint implementation efforts of M&M and Telcordia, the utility went into production with ArcFM in September 2005. Wanting to make its data available to a wide range of users, Middle Tennessee EMC followed the project with a rollout of ArcFM Viewer on Engine to support its operations staff both in the field and in the office.

Terry Barton, GIS programmer/analyst for Middle Tennessee EMC, said, “Our goal was to operate Viewer for our meter readers and service teams on at least one laptop per crew. We currently have approximately 60 seats deployed for mobile use, and the updated technology has granted us access to more complete information in assisting our crews with navigation.”

ArcFM Viewer allows the company’s varied departments to retrieve consistent, timely asset information from their GIS. This standardized approach to viewing facilities information has fostered improved communication between engineers at headquarters and crews working remotely.

“Using the ArcFM Solution has minimized our training efforts while increasing the number of experts viewing our data,” said Terry Barton.

Founded in 1936, the electric cooperative distributes electricity to 165,000 residential and business members in a four-county area directly south of metropolitan Nashville, Tennessee.
