AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution Division (T&D) India Ltd. has won a prestigious contract for the modernization of Chennai airport from Herve Pomerleau International - Consolidated Construction Consortium Limited JV. The contract is for a power supply system package for the development of Kamraj domestic terminal, Phase-II, expansion of the existing Anna international terminal and face-lifting of existing terminals at Chennai airport and is worth approximately €8 million. It is one of the biggest recent electrical contracts for the Airport Infrastructure segment, to be awarded in the Indian Power Distribution industry.

Commenting on the order, Mr. Michel Augonnet, Executive Vice President for the Systems business unit of AREVA T&D, said “Our success in winning the Chennai airport contract reinforces AREVA T&D’s strength in airport power supply systems. Chennai airport is the second consecutive project to feature AREVA T&D’s airport power supply system, since we won the power supply system contract for Delhi International Airport (DIAL) last year. We wish to further leverage our strengths in this segment for similar upcoming projects.”

AREVA will design, manufacture, supply and install a 110-kV Gas-insulated Substation (GIS) and the power distribution system at 11 kV, scheduled for commissioning in January 2011, which will supply electricity for the expansion of Chennai airport, one of the largest international gateways into the country and a major air hub for Tamil Nadu.
