New Substation Automation Systems for Terna S.p.A.

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division has signed a 6 million Euro frame agreement with Terna S.p.A. to supply substation automation systems (PACiS) that comply with the new International Electrotechnical Commission’s IEC-61850 standard.

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division has signed a 6 million Euro frame agreement with Terna S.p.A. to supply substation automation systems (PACiS) that comply with the new International Electrotechnical Commission’s IEC-61850 standard. Within the next 26 months, AREVA T&D will develop, design, erect and certify a working prototype in order to meet the new IEC standard’s and the company’s specific requirements. The final system will be installed and activated within 48 months. The company will also provide 65 power connection bays and will replace Terna S.p.A.’s existing electrical copper connections with new fiber optic versions. These new substation automation systems will enable the grid operator to integrate equipment with more flexibility and anticipate future needs. AREVA T&D will also provide Terna S.p.A. with full technical support and maintenance services for the next ten years.
