American Transmision Co. (ATC) has filed an application for the Western Milwaukee County Electric Reliability Project with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. The project involves two new transmission line connections to serve a new substation proposed by We Energies. The new facilities are needed to respond to the area’s growing electric needs and the critical nature of two trauma centers located within the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center.

We are proposing, with Minnesota Power, to develop a 50-mi, double-circuit 345-kV transmission line from the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota to our jointly owned Arrowhead Substation in Duluth. The companies also will study transmission options to strengthen regional system reliability and move clean energy into Wisconsin and Michigan. Minnesota Power recently signed a 15-year agreement to purchase 250 MW of hydroelectricity from Manitoba Hydro.
