Sept. 12, 2014
Aging 69,000-volt line needs upgrading

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin gramted approval to American Transmission Co. (ATC) to rebuild a 20-mi 69,000-V transmission line in Rock and Walworth counties. The Colley Road-Brick Church Rebuild Project will run from the Colley Road Substation in Beloit to the Brick Church Substation in Walworth. The project also involves construction of the new Tiger Substation near Clinton.

“Much of the line is more than 60 years old and needs improvements to ensure electric reliability in the area,” said Jon Callaway, ATC senior local relations representative.

The project will involve stringing new wires and replacing aging wood transmission poles with new steel poles. The new substation will be constructed on approximately 10 acres of land owned by ATC near Clinton.

Construction is planned to begin during the second half of 2015 to meet an in-service date of spring 2018. The estimated cost of the project is $38.5 million.
