AECOM has been awarded a US$2.3-million contract by Société Mauritanienne d'Électricité for an electricity transmission and distribution project.

The project, financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, entails providing the feasibility and engineering front-end studies, tender documents and assistance to the owner for the construction of 90-kV and 33-kV transmission lines and the associated substations.

"Through this project, we will help the government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania reach its objective of increasing the urban and rural electrification rates and the energy offer through the extension of the electrical network," said Damien Tholomier, AECOM's regional energy business line leader in Canada. "We have put together a team of highly experienced T&D professionals, and we are confident that their talent and expertise will provide the expected results for this project, which is important to the country's economy."
