ABB has won a contract from the Beijing Electric Power Corp. for power transformers to strengthen electricity grids in the city and ensure reliable power for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The transformers will be manufactured locally in China at the ABB plant is Chongqing- the largest transformer manufacturing facility in the word.

The order is part of the Beijing Electric Power Corporation's $2.7-billion investment in the city's power infrastructure which includes 24 transformers rated at 110 kV. The new units will be installed and operational by July 2007.

"This order confirms our customer's confidence in ABB's reliable and energy-efficient power technology," said Bernhard Jucker, head of ABB's Power Products division. "We are delighted to contribute to China's key projects like the Beijing Olympic Games."
