Milestone For Statnett/Valard Norway Transmission Project

Oct. 14, 2016
The project is part of Statnett’s larger Vestre korridor or West Corridor Project.

In May of this year, Valard Construction announced that it was been selected by Statnett to construct the Fjotland-Ertsmyra-Lyse-Duge Transmission Line.

The project is part of Statnett’s larger Vestre korridor or West Corridor Project. On Sept. 17, Valard’s Director of European Operations, John Carroll, acknowledged that the first tower (FM16), had been erected.

“This is the first complete tower, in the mountainous area at 900 metres elevation above sea level (~3,000 ft.), to be erected," Carroll said. "Working in this area presents a number of difficult conditions, including fog, rain and high winds, which impact helicopter operations and safety on site. Workers must be ready to respond to ever changing environmental conditions and, in the likely event of extreme weather conditions, to overnight onsite. Each tower spot is equipped with communications, an emergency shelter, a cache of emergency food, heat and camping equipment. This means that the Erection scheduled to start mid-September is well underway.”
