Twenty-seven Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) employees and 22 trucks traveled nearly 1,000 miles to Garrett County in western Maryland on Oct. 30, 2012. The utility's linemen have a lot of experience with heat and storms, but the mountains, cold and heavy snow from Hurricane Sandy presented a challenge. The Orlando, Florida-based linemen helped FirstEnergy restore power in the wake of the massive storm.

Three days later, a second group of 14 OUC employees traveled more than 1,100 miles to assist the Long Island Power Authority in New York, where more than 1.1 million residents were left in the dark.
