Transmission Line Asset Management Through Conductor Motion Management

April 10, 2016
This panel will provide conductor life extension approaches through conductor motion management both for existing lines and for new lines at the design stage

This panel session at the 2016 IEEE PES T&D Conference & Expo will review the methodologies of conductor motion mitigation and the utility industry’s current state in conductor fatigue and motion control, highlight the lessons that utilities have learned, and discuss the conductor pre-mature aging problems and the conductor and fitting failures caused by Aeolian vibration, galloping and sub-span oscillations.

This panel will provide conductor life extension approaches through conductor motion management both for existing lines and for new lines at the design stage. The topics cover conductor motion problems caused by line design issues, fitting selection issues and by ineffective motion mitigation designs, wrong recommendations and products.

To prevent overhead lines from premature failures and to extend the conductors’ life span, this panel will also discuss condition assessment of conductors and fittings and recommend programs to ensure that utilities’ motion mitigation solutions are effective, as well as HTLS conductor motion management.

Tuesday, May 3, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
