The Wind Plant Collector System Design Working Group has prepared a series of papers aimed at providing basic guidelines on engineering design issues for large wind plants. The first five papers were presented at the 2009 PES General Meeting. This panel session is the second of a series of sessions being executed by the Working Group over the next two years, and adds four more topics to the working group’s accomplishments.

This session includes discussion of design and application issues related to arc flash hazards, system fault protection coordination, substation power transformers, and cables and overhead lines at wind power plants. Future topics to be covered by the Working Group include power quality, communications & controls, and testing & commissioning of wind plants.

Mitch Bradt from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will chair this session on Tuesday, April 20, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
