Raleigh, N.C., Sept. 16, 2008 –- ABB, a power and automation technology group, has started to ship transformers under the Edison Electric Institute's (EEI) Premium Efficiency Transformers Purchasing Program, sponsored by EEI and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).

ABB has endorsed this program, which encourages the early adoption of the U.S. Department of Energy's 2010 efficiency standards. Transformers shipped with the NEMA Premium® label meet or exceed the new standards.

“As part of ABB's commitment to a sustainable environmental policy, we are proud to be among the first to offer to our customers the opportunity for early adoption of the new U.S. efficiency standards,” said Thomas Lazarz, head of ABB's transformer business in the Americas. “We have the designs, material agreements and processes in place to ensure full compliance with these standards and are now ready to meet our customers' early requirements for these new, more efficient designs.”
