Visualization pioneer Barco, in cooperation with audio-video systems integrator Vistacom, is providing its latest networked video wall solution to the Bermuda Electric Light Co. (BELCO) to upgrade its power grid visualization capabilities.

As the sole electric utility for the island of Bermuda, BELCO is responsible for monitoring and managing electricity generation and delivery to 36,000 metered connections throughout a 21-sq mile (54-sq km) area. The new Barco video wall displays a highly detailed, wide-area view of the island's power grid, providing real-time data and video on power usage and availability across numerous workstations in the operations center — an especially critical capability during hurricane season and other high-alert weather periods.

The new video wall system has an information-sharing capability that enables managers, operators and customer service staff to view real-time supervisory control and data acquisition information simultaneously throughout the utility's computer network. Combined with the wall's superior-quality pixel and color accuracy, the system allows BELCO to quickly assess and solve outages to restore power.

BELCO opted for Barco's OVL-815 80-inch (2,032-mm) LED-lit rear-projection modules configured in a 3×2 array with stitched screens, driven by the latest video wall processors.
