Smart Grid-Ready Control Increases Automation and Efficiency

July 1, 2013
Cooper Power Systems has announced that its Smart Grid-ready, CBC-8000 capacitor bank control now offers an Ethernet communication module.

Cooper Power Systems' Smart Grid-ready, CBC-8000 capacitor bank control now offers an Ethernet communication module. The module provides seamless integration into new or existing CBC-8000 controls for intelligent communications capabilities. The platform expansion provides added efficiency with Power over Ethernet capability, allowing customers to leverage IP-based communication networks for programming and data collection to increase automation.

The CBC-8000 control features a universal modular design capable of being deployed as a stand-alone field device or as an integrated member of an entire automation solution to enhance grid efficiency and power quality. It can also easily adapt to distribution automation advancements through firmware feature upgrades and by adding future modules.

Specifically designed for remote operation and retrieval of field measurement data for analysis by Integrated Volt/VAR applications, the CBC 8000 control is highly flexible and programmable, delivering three-phase site measurements and neutral current sensing. Each CBC-8000 supports independent Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) thresholds, and provides seamless integration with a variety of communication technologies or radios along with interfacing to backend applications, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition or Distribution Management Systems.

The control is available radio-ready or with a utility radio installed at the factory. Configurations can be upgraded or downloaded through Cooper Power Systems ProView NXG software utilizing the control’s local USB connection, or remotely from the office using radio communications. The CBC-8000 meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards supporting 120/240 V and 50/60 Hz electrical systems for global applications.
