ABB has announced that its Pinetops, North Carolina, manufacturing facility will significantly expand its product offering to accommodate production of Kuhlman Electric Corp.’s product line of medium-voltage dry-type instrument transformers.

The Pinetops expansion comes on the heels of the recent announcement by Kuhlman Electric and ABB to permanently close Kuhlman’s Versailles, Kentucky, manufacturing plant. Kuhlman will retain its headquarters in Versailles, which will offer support during this transition.

To make this process smooth and seamless for all ABB and Kuhlman customers, ABB has initiated a transition plan to gradually move all medium-voltage dry-type instrument transformers from Versailles to Pinetops, while retaining all key Kuhlman personnel.

ABB’s utmost focus during this process is to guarantee continuity of supply of high-quality products, while providing strong technical support and customer service. Marketing personnel from the two companies will work with each individual customer to ensure that all contractual commitments are met.

The gradual product transfer will begin immediately, and is scheduled for completion between late September and mid-December 2009. During this time, the ABB plant in Pinetops will be expanded to add new production capacity necessary to manufacture the complete portfolio of Kuhlman Medium Voltage dry-type instrument transformers. The inventory of Arteche Medium Voltage dry-type instrument transformers will also be transferred to Pinetops during this transition period.
