Vermont Electric Power Co. and the Vermont Distribution Utilities have selected R. W. Beck, an SAIC company, to provide grant administration and technical support for its eEnergy smart grid project, which will expand the deployment of smart meters in Vermont from 28,000 to 300,000 by the end of 2010.

This project is being financed in part by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Smart Grid Investment Grant program, which was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. R. W. Beck will help the eEnergy Vermont Team with ARRA reporting, grant requirements planning, and financial reporting systems. The firm will also work with the team to help select and integrate its smart grid technology, implement a communications system, and develop a rate design.

The project will enhance and expand utilities’ secure control systems for substations, the electrical distribution and transmission grids and field test customer systems such as in-home displays and energy-focused home area networks.
