Telvent has announced its agreement with the Swedish utility Vattenfall Eldistribution to extend the operation of its smart metering system, Amrelva 3, until the year 2014. Telvent has partnered with Vattenfall since 2006, implementing and operating a metering network of more than 600,000 smart meters. The contract further extends Telvent's position as an international leader in smart grid solutions for utilities across the world.

Vattenfall Eldistribution, Vattenfall Services and Telvent have also signed a letter of intent to work together in the operation and enhancement of the entire metering network for the next six years. The intention is to operate more than 850,000 meters in Sweden, including both industrial and residential customers through 2017.

With Telvent solutions, Vattenfall will have the capability to compile, analyze and process, in real time, an entire new set of data retrieved from the smart meter network. Vattenfall will be able to make decisions within an enhanced security environment that will improve efficiencies in grid operations and allow the integration of power supply from new renewable energy sources, without compromising grid stability.
