Silver Spring Networks, Inc. has been selected for the initial phase of a distribution automation project with Snohomish County Public Utility District, which serves more than 320,000 electricity customers in northwestern Washington State. Leveraging Silver Spring’s standards-based IPv6 networking platform and distribution automation solution, the Snohomish PUD program is designed to improve the reliability, efficiency, and resiliency of its distribution grid.

“We selected Silver Spring because of the company’s proven performance supporting vital DA communications. We are committed to providing the highest levels of service to our customers. As part of that commitment, we’re connecting our cap bank controllers and automated switches to increase the reliability, efficiency, and resiliency of our power grid,” said Chris Heimgartner, Assistant General Manager of Distribution & Engineering Services at the utility. “Silver Spring’s standards-based networking platform allows us to not only connect, monitor and control DA equipment in the field today, but to also create the long-term foundation for deployment of additional smart grid solutions in the future.”
