RuggedCom Inc. has been granted a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademarks Office issued on July 3, 2007, under U.S. Patent No. 7,239,497. The patent relates to the power supply design developed and currently used by RuggedCom in many of its communications networking solutions, including Ethernet switches and network routers.

“The power supply is a critical component in the reliable operation of networking devices and is susceptible to many types of failures,” said Marzio Pozzuoli, president and CEO of RuggedCom. “Our unique design facilitates maximum network uptime and high reliability for mission-critical networks and represents a key competitive advantage for our products.”

RuggedCom’s power supply design enables all of RuggedCom products to pass the stringent internal RuggedRated testing process, which includes a set of criteria that networking and communications devices must meet to ensure reliable operation within harsh environments. The RuggedRated symbol identifies products that have been specifically designed to: meet or exceed a wide range of industry standards such as IEC61850, IEEE1613 Class 2, NEMA TS-2; provide a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heavy electrical surges; operate in a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C without the use of fans; be powered from a variety of sources (12 VDC, 24 VDC, 48 VDC, 88-300 VDC/35-264 VAC); and have high mean time between failures (MTBFs) and reliability characteristics.
