RuggedCom Inc. has introduced a compact version of the RuggedBackbone RX1500 family of integrated layer 3 switching and routing devices. These new compact form-factor products are suited for pole-top and DIN-mount applications where cabinet space is at a premium.

The compact RuggedBackbone RX1500 family comprised the RX1510, RX1511 and RX1512 models which are cost-effective, utility grade, integrated layer 3 Ethernet switches and routers. The modular, hot-swappable platform allows customers to select a combination of DSL, cellular, T1/E1, DDS, serial and Ethernet options to obtain an optimal solution for each of their smart grid communications challenges. The RX1512 fits in a 5-inch x 6-inch x 7-inch form factor. The support of popular DSL and cellular communications technologies make it suitable for Smart Grid applications such as AMI and SCADA using public networks.

The RX1510, RX1511 and RX1512 are all hardened to the RuggedRated specification providing a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heavy electrical surges typical of the harsh environments found in many utility applications. An operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F) allows the RuggedBackbone RX1500 family to be placed in almost any location.
