Public Service Company of New Mexico and Texas-New Mexico Power Select ESRI for Enterprise GIS

Nov. 8, 2006
Public Service Company of New Mexico and Texas-New Mexico Power have selected ESRI as their enterprise geographic information system (GIS) software provider.

Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) and Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) have selected ESRI as their enterprise geographic information system software provider. Their legacy systems will be migrated to a single platform using ArcGIS software. ArcGIS will serve as a complete, interoperable platform that provides powerful visualization and cartographic capabilities, advanced spatial analysis, and comprehensive geographic data management. The selection came after an extensive, multiyear decision process.

The enterprise GIS implementation will consolidate legacy AM/FM systems and data to a common ArcGIS software technology platform. The implementation will include improving workflow processes and efficiencies with GIS-based engineering design applications; planned integration with other IT systems, such as system modeling, work management, customer information system, and outage management systems; and training and services. The result will be an integrated framework where data, business logic, and applications are easily maintained and accessible throughout the organization. PNM and TNMP will achieve streamlined business processes; more accurate asset and network data; increased data access, analysis, modeling, and reporting; better regulatory compliance; and improved customer service.

PNM is involved in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution and natural gas transmission and distribution in New Mexico. TNMP is involved in electricity transmission and distribution in Texas and New Mexico. These activities combined include supplying electricity to more than 730,000 customers in New Mexico and Texas and supplying natural gas to more than 481,000 customers in New Mexico.

PNM and TNMP selected ESRI ArcGIS software for enterprise deployment to support electric and gas transmission and distribution applications and integration with other IT systems. PNM and TNMP will leverage existing expertise and prior investments in implementing GIS across their respective utility operations. PNM, historically a leader in implementing AM/FM/GIS technologies, has received GITA Innovator Awards for its TAMIS and AMIGO systems as well as an ESRI Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award.

In addition to ArcGIS software and training, this enterprise GIS implementation will also include software, training, and services solutions from Miner & Miner, a Telvent company, and VELOCITIE.
