Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) Services Corp. has deployed NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer to improve troubleshooting and capacity planning over its wide-area network (WAN) serving the PSEG family of companies. PSEG is a diversified Fortune 200 energy company headquartered in Newark, New Jersey, and one of the ten largest electric companies in the United States. ReporterAnalyzer is the network traffic analysis module of the NetQoS Performance Center.

“NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer provides the real-time visibility we need into the traffic crossing our network, which means we spend less time troubleshooting and more time improving performance,” said Enrico Magsino, principal for Infrastructure Architecture at PSEG Services Corp. “Using NetQoS, our operations people can now quickly tell which applications or users are causing an issue and take steps to fix it. This has in turn freed up time for our network engineers to do capacity planning and ensure our QoS policies are prioritizing our traffic appropriately.”

NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer gives PSEG insight into the composition of traffic on every WAN link to understand how application traffic is impacting network performance. By knowing which applications, hosts, and conversations are consuming bandwidth across its hundreds of WAN interfaces, PSEG can quickly identify the source of performance problems, validate the impact of planned and unplanned changes within the network, and avoid unnecessary WAN costs. ReporterAnalyzer works by capturing a rich set of traffic statistics from Cisco IOS NetFlow or other IPFIX-enabled routers and switches.

“ReporterAnalyzer was built to provide companies like PSEG with both real-time and historical data and the intuitive workflows essential for troubleshooting and proactive activities like capacity planning,” said Steve Harriman, senior vice president of marketing for NetQoS. “The NetFlow monitoring data from ReporterAnalyzer enables IT personnel to make informed decisions about improving network and application performance instead of relying on traditional network management metrics such as utilization and availability.”

The Performance Center is a Web-based management console that integrates data from NetQoS products in customized views to help organizations optimize application delivery, solve problems faster, mitigate the risks from change, and make the most efficient use of resources. In addition to traffic analysis, NetQoS provides end-to-end application response time monitoring, device performance management, long-term packet capture and analysis, and VoIP and unified communications performance monitoring
