China Southern Grid Electric Power Research Institute and OSIsoft have signed an agreement to collaborate on a Smart Grid project. Officials from the U.S., including Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Ambassador Gary Locke, were present at this signing ceremony. This project will demonstrate ways that smart grid technologies can be integrated into CSG’s existing systems to enable better data integration and improve the reliability & efficiency of the electric power grid. The project is a high priority for CSG and represents a tremendous opportunity to share U.S. expertise and technology.

China Southern Grid has been an OSIsoft customer since 2006. The PI System was first deployed in the CSG’s Dispatcher Center in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, for the Dispatcher Center’s Operations.

Supported by this grant from USTDA, the PI System will be used to integrate data from CSG’s distribution operations, substations, and meters. China’s power industry is a very important market for OSIsoft and CSG is a strategic customer and business partner in the market.

“This pilot project for China Southern Grid will showcase the new capabilities, advanced analytics, visualization, and the value of OSIsoft’s PI System. China Southern Grid EPRI has always been at the leading edge of Smart Grid technology and development. This joint effort will raise it to the next level,” said Ann Moore, Director - Industry and Market Principals at OSIsoft.
