Hunt Technologies, Inc. and Landis+Gyr Inc. have announced commercial availability of the RF-based automatic meter reading (AMR) AirPoint FOCUS endpoint. Orders for the endpoint are now being accepted.

This endpoint combines ERT-compatible RF technology, manufactured by Hunt Technologies, with the Landis+Gyr solid-state FOCUS meter. Hunt’s AirPoint technology provides the same features and functions as the Itron ERT and is designed to interface with the Itron Mobile Collection System 1.0 and 2.0, as well as off-site collection systems.

“The AirPoint FOCUS provides a competitive option for utilities with an existing or new Itron system,” said Corey McGuire, product manager for Hunt Technologies.

The FOCUS meter uses a digital multiplication measurement technique on a single circuit-board design, positioned toward the face of the meter. The meter is also optically reconfigurable, meaning the cover does not have to be removed to allow kWh resets or meter reprogramming.

“The FOCUS meter platform lends itself quite readily to AMR development and that attribute contributes greatly to the speed with which we are able to bring new AMR endpoints to the market,” explained Lizardo Hernandez, Landis+Gyr’s product marketing manager, FOCUS.

Utilities may purchase the complete AirPoint FOCUS endpoint directly from Landis+Gyr or purchase AirPoint modules and FOCUS meters separately, for factory installation by Landis+Gyr.
