Tensing's real-time mobile GIS solutions, Live Connect and Live Update, have been integrated with GE’s Outage Management System PowerOn to provide utilities with live GIS data in the field.

PowerOn is an off-the-shelf outage management system that enables customer service while improving network efficiency and reliability.

Integrated with PowerOn, Tensing Live Connect will automatically provide the necessary GIS data to field service engineers in association with the issued trouble tickets. When an asset on the grid is down, PowerOn issues a service order to the field service engineer and Tensing Live Connect automatically routes the necessary facilities and mapping data with the service order. Tensing Live Connect eliminates the need to store large amounts of data on the field device.

Furthermore, since outages are dynamic, the need to provide real-time routing to the job site becomes critical to quickly respond to the problem. As a job is received in the field, the crew is automatically routed from its existing location to the outage site. Additionally, once an asset is ready to go live again, Tensing Live Update will automatically generate a message to update the status of the asset back to the outage management system and the corporate GIS. To ensure the safety of other field crews, Tensing Live Update will also communicate the new asset information to all other field service engineers. The combination of Tensing Live Connect and Live Update with PowerOn brings GIS and outage data into the field.

“The integration of Tensing Live Connect and Live Update with PowerOn provides electric utilities a powerful tool to manage outages and respond to emergencies,” said Alexander Plomp, managing director of Tensing. “Field engineers need accurate asset data to prevent outages and keep down time to a minimum. With Tensing Live Connect and Live Update field engineers will have the up-to-date applicable asset information to complete their jobs quickly and efficiently in emergency situations.”

Tensing Live Connect and Live Update are part of Tensing’s suite of mobility solutions for the utilities industry. Built on the .NET framework, both solutions are easily integrated into back office systems to extend live context-based mapping and asset data to the field.
