Metavante Corp., the banking and payments technology subsidiary of Marshall & Ilsley Corp., has announced software license agreements with two new clients for its document composition software.

These new contracts, one with FortisBC Inc. and a second with EPCOR Utilities Inc., extend Metavante’s market presence in the utility industry for the CSF Designer software and bring the number of Canadian CSF clients to 12.

Both EPCOR and FortisBC chose to bring the design and processing of their bills in-house after previously outsourcing the entire process. Metavante’s CSF product enables utilities like EPCOR and FortisBC to reduce costs, more rapidly modify design and control the brand and messaging on their bills, while gaining efficiencies by outsourcing print and mail operations. CSF Designer helps companies with its intuitive and easy-to-use design tools along with the focus on total cost of ownership, making it easy to deploy and offering quick time to value.

CSF Designer will help FortisBC, an integrated, regulated electric utility in British Columbia, redesign and simplify bills to make them easier to read and understand, improve customer relationships, and enhance its marketing capabilities. For example, by providing energy efficiency tips in monthly bills, FortisBC can educate customers on ways to decrease their costs, which may result in a reduction of calls to the FortisBC customer service center.

“We had set a major initiative to bring our document creation efforts in-house to improve customer communications and gain additional control over bill design and messaging. CSF Designer will make it possible for us to meet this objective and its ease of use reduces the need for specialized technical expertise,” said Mark Warren, director, customer service, FortisBC.

EPCOR, based in Edmonton, Alberta, is one of Canada's top providers of energy and energy-related services and products to customers in Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia and the United States. With the CSF Designer tool, EPCOR will be able to control its monthly bill messaging content and the way that its programs are communicated.

“We selected Metavante because we needed to connect customer communications to our business strategy through accessible technology,” said Isabelle Michaud, director of billing services at EPCOR. “Metavante’s CSF Designer product enables us to produce high-quality monthly bills and develop effective communication with consumers.”
