Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the largest electric utility in Malaysia, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Trilliant, following the U.S.-Asia Pacific Comprehensive Energy Partnership’s (USACEP) High-Level Meetings and ahead of a visit by President Barack Obama to Malaysia.

The MOU will provide a framework for collaboration between the two companies to exchange technical information and training, and to explore models to deliver smart grid benefits such as enhanced energy efficiency, improved reliability, and energy security to the people throughout TNB’s customer base in Malaysia.

As the third largest economy in Southeast Asia, which is  growing at a relatively high rate, it is vital for Malaysia to ensure affordable, secure and cleaner energy supplies to meet and sustain its economic growth. Smart grid is an enabler that will help the country modernize its energy infrastructure in the 21st century to meet this goal.

The MOU was signed by Datuk Seri Ir. Azman Bin Mohd, President and CEO of TNB, and Bryan Spear, Asia Pacific managing director for Trilliant.  The signing ceremony was witnessed by James Steele, Senior Advisor, Economic Policy, East Asia Pacific, U.S. Department of State and Tan Sri Leo Moggie, the Chairman of TNB, as well as representatives from the Export-Import Bank of the United States, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, and the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur.
