Elster Electricity (Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.) has received accreditation from Measurement Canada as an Authorized Service Provider to inspect and seal electricity meters at its Raleigh, North Carolina, manufacturing facility. The accreditation allows Elster to offer the option of factory-sealed meters.

The scope of the accreditation enables Elster to perform factory verification to the Measurement Canada standards for most single-phase and polyphase electronic meters including time-of-use, reactive, and demand meters--specifically Elster's REX meters and ALPHA meters sold in the Canadian market. REX and A3 ALPHA meters are key components of the EnergyAxis System--Elster's advanced metering automation system for residential, commercial, and industrial electric and water metering applications.

"With changes on the horizon in Ontario resulting from the government of Ontario's smart metering initiatives, receiving accreditation from Measurement Canada was critical to serving our customers more completely," said Mark Munday, president and CEO of Elster Electricity. "We can now provide large shipments of sealed meters with shorter lead times, allowing our Canadian customers to better manage large meter installations."

As an Authorized Service Provider, Elster will be audited by Measurement Canada to ensure that the terms, conditions, and requirements of the program are being met. Annual audits will be performed in conjunction with Elster's existing ISO-9000-based quality assurance system.
