Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. has announced new DNP3 LAN/WAN options for SEL relays

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) has announced new DNP3 LAN/WAN options for SEL relays. DNP3 is the most popular protocol in North American utilities, and popular in many other parts of the world.

“Our customers are excited that they can now retrieve valuable data from SEL-400 series relays via DNP3 Ethernet connections to SCADA and automation systems,” said Roy Moxley, transmission product manager.

The SEL-400 series includes the following:

  • SEL-421 High-Speed Line Protection, Automation, and Control System
  • SEL-451 Protection, Automation, and Control System
  • SEL-487B Bus Protection Relay

SEL-400 series relays equipped with this option support five separate DNP maps and up to ten DNP connections. For example, three SCADA masters, a local human-machine interface (HMI), and a remote HMI would consume five of the ten available DNP connections. Other SEL products that already support DNP3 LAN/WAN are SEL-2032 and SEL-2030 Communications Processors, SEL-3301 Protocol Gateways, and SEL-3351 System Computing Platforms.
