Alaska Utility Receives New SCADA System

Survalent Technology, a leading provider of core smart grid solutions to utilities, announced today that it has installed a new SCADA system for Homer Electric Association, Inc.

Survalent Technology has installed a new SCADA system for Homer Electric Association, Inc. Homer Electric Association (HEA), headquartered in Homer, Alaska, provides electric service to 21,586 member-owners in a 3,166 square-mile service area on the Kenai Peninsula. HEA maintains 2,342 miles of distribution line, the Nikiski Generation Plant, and the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Plant.

The new system is an upgrade from Survalent’s VMS platform to its highly available, open-architecture system based on Windows Server 2008. The system includes many of Survalent’s applications, including: Command Sequencing, Event Data Recording, SCADA Add-in for MS Excel and Access, System Configuration Status, GPS Clock Interface, Database Transcription, and Virtual RTU. The new system supports DNP 3.0, MODBUS RTU, and Telegyr 8979 communication protocols.
