Landis+Gyr has released for sale its factory-installed version of the RF-based AirPoint MX automatic meter reading (AMR) endpoint, which combines Hunt Technologies’ ERT-equivalent AirPoint module with Landis+Gyr’s electromechanical MX meter platform. The install-ready endpoint is a direct replacement for the Itron 41ER-1 ERT MX endpoint. Hunt’s AirPoint technology provides the same features and functions as the Itron 41ER-1 ERT and is designed to interface with the Itron Mobile Collection System 1.0 and 2.0, as well as off-site collection systems.

“Landis+Gyr is pleased to be able to offer a price-competitive, factory-installed version of the AirPoint MX endpoint in such a timely fashion,” stated Landis+Gyr’s MX and Altimus Product Marketing Manager Mimi Lynde. “Through our internal vetting processes, we assured ourselves and potential buyers of the endpoint’s direct replacement capabilities, and were still able to bring the complete package to market very quickly. Now, because of this work, the transition for current 41ER-1 ERT MX users should be very smooth.”

In addition to providing compatibility with existing mobile reading systems deployed by Itron, the AirPoint MX endpoint provides the following features:

  • Low-cost implementation with rapid ROI
  • Direct register reads
  • Alert of energy theft and meter tampering
  • Revenue assurance
  • Successful load profiling and forecasting

“Our standard MX meter is considered ERT ready,” adds Lynde. “So, no special manufacturing processes are required, and no special equipment or other make-ready, such as enlarging the disc mark scanned by the optical reader, needs to be accounted for. The retrofit is very simple, very quick and very clean—which is a plus for utilities who want to install modules into new meters or retrofit existing MX meters in their own meter shop.”

A standard retrofit kit, containing the required mounting posts and screws to secure an AirPoint module into an MX meter, is also available from Landis+Gyr.
