SSE Telecoms, the telecoms business of Scottish and Southern Energy, has selected a new network inventory solution as its asset management system. The network inventory system will increase the efficiency and accuracy of network access records to enable a new level of customer service across SSE Telecoms 8000 km UK-wide fiber optic network.

The Smallworld Network Inventory solution from GE will migrate existing sources of SSE Telecoms network and services information into one centralized database, allowing internal users easier access to data while providing Web access for authorized customers to locate SSE Telecoms assets. Featuring two integrated solution sets, the Physical Network Inventory solution will enable SSE Telecoms users to manage the physical network assets against a geospatial background, while the Logical Network Inventory solution will provide an existing and planned view of customer services. As a result, network planners and engineers will be able to accurately and efficiently plan future network extensions and new network-based customer services.

GE's Quickstart Services implementation program is enabling SSE Telecoms to go live with Smallworld in just six months. Quickstart services include training, software installation, application configuration, and customization to fit SSE Telecoms' specific business needs. The system will launch in Perth, Reading and Havant sites by September 2010.
